BETON
German premiere
June 20 & 21, 2026
iPunkt Skateland

A skateboarder dressed in black floats in the air performing a trick inside an indoor skatepark. The skateboard spins beneath his feet as a strong light casts his elongated shadow on the concrete floor. In the background, dark graffiti-covered walls, ramps, and rails complete the scene.

“BETON” ventures into the world of skateparks to explore their architecture, uses, and imagination. At the crossroads of breakdancing and skateboarding, the piece engages with reliefs and curves to reveal their full physical and poetic charge, becoming the stage for a choreographic creation that questions how bodies move, meet, and reinvent themselves within them. The performers explore the shapes and volumes of the skatepark, using transitions between vast open spaces and confined areas to create choreographic compositions. The performers will be joined by members of the local skateboarding community.

Born in Brussels, Julien Carlier began his artistic journey through intensive Breakdance training while earning a Master’s in physical therapy. A self-taught artist, he developed his choreographic language through interdisciplinary exchanges and collective projects. In dialogue with contemporary dance, his approach combines the virtuosity of his Hip-Hop dancer background with a research focused on intimacy and sensitivity. His creations fuse dance with other artistic disciplines, pushing the boundaries of movement and perception. Since 2015, Julien has developed an internationally recognised body of work. He has participated in renowned training programs and was a resident choreographer at Charleroi Danse (2020-2023). Currently, he is an associate artist at the Théâtre de Liège (2024-2028).
